“This application makes it possible to tell about history in a new, accessible way and the virtual content also works well for students. In addition, it is great that this era is also being brought to the front, because the castle is much more than just the Middle Ages”
Susanna Lahtinen, City of Turku Museum Services’ Outreach Amanuensis
We implemented a story-based Augmented Reality experience set at the castle yards in 1827 together with the Turku Museum Centre and the Museum of History and the Future project. The content has been published in Tarina application.
The Castle Yards 1827 experience combines storytelling, gameplay and the elements from the physical environment. It guides the user on a walk in yards surrounding the Turku Castle where the AR scenes are activated based on the user’s location.
Charlotta Rosenberg and Bengt Selin act as guides in the setting. The actors have been brought into the application with green screen technology.
Castle Yards 1827 can be experienced in Finnish, Swedish and English. The content is available in the Tarina mobile application, which can be downloaded for free from Google Play and the App Store.
